Summer is now well underway. What does Summer mean for you? It may be the smell of barbeques, long evenings or fun in the sun with your friends.

Try some of our Summer ideas:

In my picnic basket I packed a ….

Age: 5+
Players: Two or more

Pretend you are off on a picnic with a basket to fill.
The first player chooses an item for the basket that starts with the letter A.

In my picnic basket, I packed an apple…

The next player chooses an item for their picnic basket that starts with the letter B, for example ‘In my picnic basket, I packed my binoculars’.

The game continues until you reach the end of the alphabet or until one player runs out of ideas for their basket.

You may want to set a time limit and see who can come up with the most words in the agreed time.

Summer Solstice

Age: 5+
Players: Two or more

The summer solstice takes place around the third week of June and marks the longest day of summer and the turning point when days start to get shorter.

People have celebrated the summer solstice with song and dance.

Why not make up your own solstice dance? You could make a dance up with a group of friends.

If you need some help getting started, take a piece of paper and write a dance move at the top of the page, such as ‘wave your right arm’. Fold the paper over so the first move cannot be seen and then pass it on to the next player. The next player then thinks of the next move and writes it on the piece of paper, folds it over and passes it to the next person. Take it in turns to make up as many moves as you like and then unfold the paper to reveal the full dance. Why not practice to music and add some more moves until you have your own special interpretation!
